This week it’s time for pitchers and catchers to report to their couches, pick up their controllers and get back on the baseball field. We also have a true next-gen, co-op experience and the biggest release on the PSP to date.
Army of Two (Xbox 360, PS3) – Pick of the Week
A game in which it’s you, your friend and a ton of bad guys to down. Sounds like a good time. Also sound like the game has improved a ton since it was called “Army of Shit” by one early preview a few months ago. Make sure you have a friend on board and you’ll have a great time playing this one.
MLB 2K8 (Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, PS2, PSP)
I used to love baseball video games but recent iterations have seen these games take a decided turn for the worse with control schemes which are overly complicated for a game which should be “see ball, hit ball.” I’d say give this game a pass.
MLB ‘08: The Show (PS3, PS2, PSP)
I would say see above with one caveat; I’ve played the demo for this one and I know absolutely it’s a pass. In a game which has the fewest moving parts of any sports game, this game has awful animations and ok-at-best graphics. Again, I’d say pass.
Bully Scholarship Edition (Xbox 360, Wii)
I maintain that revisiting a game on another system is almost always a bad idea, especially when more than a year has elapsed since it’s original release. Unless you just have to have an achievement for kissing guys, I’d say you can live without this one.
God of War: Chains of Olympus (PSP)
This is definitely one of, if not the biggest release on the PSP thus far. This game is easily the second most recommendable title this week and, if you have been craving a really compelling PSP game, it may also be an easy pick up.
Silent Hill: Origins (PS2)
Another in the line of PSP to PS2 ports that we have seen in recent times. I usually do say that old ports are not the way to go but, if you picked up a PS2 for it’s affordable price point and don’t have a PSP, you may want to take a long look at this title as it was very well received on the PSP.
