New Release Snap Judgements 3/10/2008

This week is a very much “get out of the way” edition of new releases as one title will dominate sales and attention and everything else is simply an also ran.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl (Wii) – Pick of the Week

I am not a fan of Nintendo or this game as the online play is gimped to say the least but if you’re a hardcore gamer waiting for the 2 or 3 good titles for your Wii, wake up, this is one of them. It’ll dominate attention and sales.

Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 (Xbox 360, PS3, PS2, PSP, DS)

Probably the second best soccer sim on the market. If you’re a fan of the series then go for it but you’d probably be better served picking up FIFA 08 at this point.

Condemned 2: Bloodshot (Xbox 360, PS3)

The follow up to the Xbox 360 launch title which took crime scene investigation and first person shooting and mashed them up quite well. It’ll be interesting to see if the Condemned series will flourish or flounder. I suspect the latter as zero advertising, as this game received, usually is a vote of confidence from the publishers.

Ratchet and Clank: Size Matters (PS2)

Just like Silent Hill: Origins last week, another excellent PSP title makes its way to the PS2 and is probably a good pickup for anyone who didn’t check out the PSP version.

House of the Dead 2 & 3 Return (Wii)

A twin billing of Dreamcast ports which are solely an excuse to whip out those Wii Zappers. If you have the peripheral then you might consider the game but you should probably just be busy playing Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

So, which games are you picking up this week?

  • Second best soccer sim?

According to the world, it is the best. Fifa has the flash, but Pro Evolution does what a soccer game should…it puts the power, creativity, and passion in the player’s hands.

What comes after that is all up to your soccer IQ.

I HIGHLY recommend Pro Evolution over FIFA. Fifa mechanics, the computer AI, and tactical organizations are still way off. This is from a guy who put more than 20 hours into FIFA already.
