Improvements for Smackdown vs Raw 2009


As featured in an article in the June 2008 edition of PlayStation Magazine, WWE’s SmackDown vs. Raw 2009 will be improved drastically through many new tweaks and additions. Next year’s version of the game will feature decreased load time, smarter computer opponents, additions to the games commentary track, additions to the animation scheme and improved hit detection. Other additions include a new create a finisher mode, a new tag team mode and Superstar specific storyline’s in “The Road to WrestleMania” career mode. The game is sure to excite fans anticipating its release.

I personally believe that THQ should stick with one type of career mode. There was story mode in Smackdown vs Raw 06 which believe it or not, was an ok game for when it came out. The grapple system was at the time on the heels of WWE Smackdown Here Comes The Pain and Smackdown vs Raw (The first entry in the series after Smackdown) which didn’t depend on the control sticks as much. Smackdown vs Raw 2007 created environmental hot spots, control stick grapples and a year round story mode that acted like you were a WWE superstar having feuds with other WWE Superstars. Smackdown vs Raw 2008 (which is the latest entry in the series) revamped the controls a little more. A few buttons here than there wore changed, but the grabber here was a few new modes. The WWE 24/7 mode has you climbing the ranks to become a WWE legend and the world heavy weight or WWE champion.

Smackdown vs Raw 2009 is going to have a greater focus on tag team wrestling, including having tag team finishers. The create a finisher mode is a new mode where you do exactly what it says. Create a finisher. This is the first time the mode is going to be used so I doubt it will be great, but it should be ok for there first time using it.
