I have heard several problems about Grand Theft Auto IV on the Playstation 3 recently. Well no more grief for the online portion of the game at least.
From Daily game. (http://www.dailygame.net/news/archives/007684.php)
Since the launch of Grand Theft Auto IV (GTA IV), Playstation 3 owners have encountered a series of miscues, largely related to online connectivity. Because the issues did not appear on GTA IV for Xbox 360, the problem was narrowed down to either the PS3’s online infrastructure or the PS3 version’s specific code.
Today, Rockstar narrowed down the problem and issued a free patch for the PS3 version of GTA IV.
The GTA IV patch for PlayStation 3, available as a free download, prevents Gamespy’s servers from being overloaded, reducing the impact on them and greatly reducing the chances of the game stuttering and/or locking up.
Rockstar has assured DailyGame that it will continue to watch the PS3 game’s performance online as well as off, providing further updates/patches if they become necessary.
In a prepared statement, Rockstar said: “We want to assure everyone that, together with our hardware partners, we continue to strive to give our fans the best possible interactive entertainment experiences possible. This update will ensure that everyone will experience Grand Theft Auto IV the way it was intended. We apologize for the inconvenience this has caused.”
The patch is to fix most online issues, but what is unbelievable is that Take Two didn’t catch this the first time around. Games may have bugs when the first come out, but when a game has issues right out of the box for one system and not the other I get a little worried. I not the biggest supporter of the PS3, but that just isn’t right to not catch that before release.
