Unlike last weeks slim pickings for the next gen consoles (zero Xbox 360 and PS3 titles for those keeping score), this weeks is packed with plenty to choose from. We have a shooter, a sports title, an RTS and an action adventure title. Let the snap judgements begin!
Battlefield: Bad Company (Xbox 360, PS3)
Having played the Battlefield: Bad Company beta, I can easily say that, despite what you may hear, no one will be playing, or talking, about it in a few weeks. It’s simply the latest average shooter that will get some buzz and then fail to capture the console shooter market which is busy playing Halo 3 and Call of Duty 4.
Top Spin 3 (Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, DS) Pick of the Week
Tennis games, much like golf, boxing and (at least in the United States) soccer, are sports titles which usually are purchased by one of two groups: hardcore tennis fans or hardcore sports game fans. The buzz is that this title will not disappoint either group as it is a further refinement of the Top Spin franchise and should be a hit for gamers in those groups.
Command and Conquer 3: Kane’s Wrath (Xbox 360)
The Command and Conquer series has been a staple on the PC for some time but many an RTS has tried and, at least sales wise, failed. If you are a true fan and want to enjoy the game on your couch with a controller, then this may be for you. If not, probably a an easy pass.
Alone in the Dark (Xbox 360, Wii, PS2, PC)
Very rarely is there a game that I have no interest in but desperately want to succeed but Alone in the Dark is one of them. This game is Atari’s great white hope for the near future and, for a company that has teetered on the brink of bankruptcy on more than one occasion, they need this one to come through. I am not hearing the necessary buzz for even a minor hit but here’s hoping.
What will you be picking up this week?
