It turns out there is a little “hack” or “exploit” in Geometry Wars 2. If you press the RB and the Back button on your controller during game play, the whole word pauses and you can actually pan around the environment in the what did seem like a 2D field to see everything in 3D. Now you move with the thumbsticks and it does take a little while to figure it out but when you do its unbelievably amazing.
