New Release Snap Judgements 9/15/08

This week we have two monsters titles and some games a trifecta of titles that will never be played by many of you. We have a face off between the sequel to the most downloading-est rhythm title on the market and perhaps the best video game from a galaxy far, far away. Then there are two PC shooters and another arcadey racer. None of which anyone will actually be playing but they totally come out this week!

Rock Band 2 (Xbox 360)

The sequel to Rock Band is already upon us, even though the game’s creators said they intended to turn the original into a platform not an annual franchise. The game has dozens of new songs and improved competitive online functionality. The instruments are also improved over the very buggy peripherals of the first. Anyone who owns Rock Band should simply get the game disc unless you are the hardest of hardcore rhythm game players.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed (Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, PS2, PSP, DS) Pick of the Week

The demo has been downloaded over 2.3 million times and is being touted as the best Star Wars game ever. The action is fun and the story is said to be more than satisfactory and works as a bridge between the new and old trilogies. This is the one to grab this week. How could you say “no” to tossing Imperial Cruisers into Wookies?

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Clear Sky (PC)

A shooter that only the hardcore PC fan picked up gets a sequel that will, again, be appreciated only by the very hardcore PC shooter fan. If you have a rig that actually handle the game, it may be worth a shot.

Crysis Warhead (PC)

Perhaps more of a notable title than S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Clear Sky but still a shooter for PC fans. There is, also, the problem of a PC that actually handle the game. That is so much of a concern with this that a Crysis Warhead rig is being sold for $700 which is guaranteed to run the game at the lowest settings.

Pure (Xbox 360, PS3)

Not much to say on this one. Another arcadey shooter that is trying to chase down Motorstorm for the tops in that category. This one has no buzz and is being released under the cover of night. If you pick this one up, I hope you enjoy playing alone.

What will you be picking up this week?

Pure isn't an arcadey shooter. It's a racing game.

I think Paul said shooter too much in the article… had "shooter" on the brain πŸ™‚ Some good titles this week, a good week for hardcore games. I'll get Rock Band 2 in 6 months… must take that long to buy the stamps to airmail it over here…
