New Release Snap Judgements 10/06/2008

We have finally entered the 4th quarter and gamers’ wallets everyone should be cringing. No lack of titles in the opening week of the quarter as it opens with a triple header of basketball titles, a third person shooter and the return of a former platform mascot.

NBA 2K9 (Xbox 360, PS3, PS2) Pick of the Week

While not perfect, the 2K series has been the cream of the crop of basketball games. The fluid gameplay and the constant refibement makes this the easy choice for any basketballl fan.

NBA Live 09 (Xbox 360, PS3, PS2, Wii, PSP)

Live is still the bigest seller each and every year but is still the inferior product. Basically, it is less than the 2K series in every key gameplay element. You can read our full review for more on EA’s basketball offering.

NBA ‘09 The Inside (PS3, PS2, PSP)

By far the least of the three basketball titles. Sony’s homemade series is still, for some reason, hanging on when it very much should not be. Avoid at all costs.

Fracture (Xbox 360, PS3, PS2)

This third person shooter seems, from all video evidence, to be very plain and only differentiates itself with, perhaps, one of the worst gimmicks in recent memory. The ability to manipulate terrain will not be the new cover system of 2008 and certanly will not this game in many, if any, consoles.

Crash: Mind Over Mutant (Xbox 360, PS2, Wii)

Apparently, Crash Bandicoot is still a series that someone is willing to milk. Sight unseen, I am willing to guess that if you are over the age of 8, you will want to avoid this one at all costs.

What are you picking up this week?
