Socom’s Network Issues?? Who cares?

Update*** The 1.60 patch for SOCOM Public Beta has been released today Thursday, October 9th, at 5 a.m. PDT. This patch addresses the joining and disconnection issues that players are currently experiencing.
In order to test this new patch, the Public Beta has been extended to midnight PDT on Saturday, October 11th.

Another two days TQfam, what do you think? Still a first day purchase? I’ll be honest, the patches have been a bit disappointing. Right now, its up in the air for me. Let’s see what 1.6 brings us tonight. My final decision will be made on OCT 13th.

For those of you that have been blessed with a Socom Confrontation Beta Code, you might have noticed a slight issue with the network while trying to play. Either the 10 minute loading screen, the rude reboot of the PS3, or the every 2 second lag that seems to never get better unless you are playing 2 vs 2.

Yes Socom for the PS3 is by far not ready for prime time when it comes to its multiplayer feature, but really does this change your decision to purchase the game? Let’s start off with this.. It is “Beta” and yes it is quite possibly one of the worst betas yet, but I’m sure Sony has noticed the issue right? They even have a very nice welcome to the network issue screen when you start up Socom.

Now, what if there were only a few network issues? Does Socom rule, and become the most anticipated game? Or does it become a “for the bluetooth headset purchase”? What ever it is, Socom when running decent is a brilliant game, the fun factor is top notch. Yes, you will quite possibly have the best fun, when creating a room with maximum of 6 players, but if Sony can pull this off in time for its assumed October release, not only will Socom be a hit, but quite honestly Sony should be awarded with the “fastest fix before release” Trophy.

Update!!! Update version 1.30 is now available,  and its main purpose is to fix the ridiculously long loading times when trying to join a game. Let’s try it out.

I think i figured out the "waiting" time. If you join a "room in progress" you get set to the lobby correct… you see all players and can switch teams and such. once you "ready up" it sends you to the spinning icon, loading screen. and you wait… and wait… and .. you get the idea. this "waiting" time is the current round being played. game mode time limits range from 3:00 to 15:00 mins which we all have experienced. once the current round is over, you get the screen to goto "spectator mode" "edit loadout" or "respawn" and start the match. that way if you've been waiting and waiting and go do something your not a "live" player till you come back and press x.
just an idea i had as to the waiting times..
i have experienced some lag, but if you didn't know its a BETA!

  • The game is very fun to play. I've always loved the SOCOM series and I have spent plenty of time playing the other games.

The only problem here…I want other games more. SOCOM should have come next year or earlier this year. Sony will be disappointed with the sales figures on this one I'm guessing especially with Resistance 2 and LBP hitting it up. That doesn't change the fact that SOCOM is a good game.

I will buy it…just not until next year. Dang…forgot about Killzone. Maybe 2010?
