Were you one of the people that did not quite have the dollars for an Xbox 360 Pro or Elite so you then settled on a Core or Arcade unit? Well if you were, I have a great surprise for you!

As most of you know the NXE, New Xbox Experience, will be coming out soon and to utilize it you will need at least 128MB of storage, more if you want to use the Netflix features.

Well, word has broken out, via TalkingAboutGames.com, that if you are one of those people you can now either get a FREE 512 MB Memory Unit, or a 20 GB HDD for only $19.99

After a long wait, the New Xbox Experience is arriving on November 19th. The dashboard update will require 128MB of space on your storage unit of choice to work, as well as an additional 8MB for those that want to take advantage of the nifty Netflix membership feature. Here’s the divide: For the large majority of the console owners, this is not a problem. But there are those that still (for some reason unknown to me) do not have a Hard Drive, and are on the last legs of their Memory Unit(s) capacity. In order to experience all the features of NXE, a Hard Drive is required. What are these folks to do?!

Microsoft has begun the “Xbox 360 Memory Upgrade Program,” which will allow users with less than 128MB of storage (the required amount for NXE) to receive discounted storage devices. Neat!

All you need to do if you’re a Core or Arcade user is log into the site above, provide your console’s serial number and ID and if you qualify (it will scan to detect if you’ve got the space or not, so no cheating, Pro/Elite owners!), you can choose from either a FREE 512 MB Memory Unit or a 20GB HDD for $19.99. Pretty cool, huh? Word is that the Hard Drives are refurbished, but Microsoft has not confirmed this yet. Be considerate, though and use good judgement. If you don’t absolutely need to use these service, then don’t. The last thing we need is for people to take advantage of free accessories. Good thing that there’s a qualification process, no?

So if your in that group you might want to jump on this ASAP as there is no word how long this will go on. And just to let you guys know, we did look into this and this actually is legit.

  • This is a pretty good deal. Glad to see that Microsoft did give a solution for the problem of storage and not a bad one at all.

  • Having a core finally pays off!
