PSN Down For 5 Hours Today

Sony has confirmed that PSN will be shutting down today for about 5 hours, for “essential maintenance work”.

11AM-4PM  Pacific

2PM-7PM Eastern

Is this maintenance for the new firmware updates, and will they becoming sooner than next month?  I guess we will see later on today and maybe nothing will be noticeable at all just yet, just like the last XBL maintenance.
