This week’s new releases is headlined by a game that has taken one of the hottest trends in gaming, online co-op team play, and made it the center of the entire thing. Add to that the fact that it is made by one of the most heralded developers in the industry and it’s no wonder it’s the game to watch this week.

Like Gears of War 2, Resistance 2 and Call of Duty: World at War, Left 4 Dead (Xbox 360, PC) features cooperative team play. The only difference is that it is the main feature of the game. That is no slight as the hop-in, hop-out gameplay makes it fun and easy to play with friends over the Internet. Judging by the demo, the gameplay is fast, furious and, thanks to the games AI director, always keeps you guessing. The game is competent and fun alone or with random people but really becomes a great time when playing with 3 friends and frantically trying to survive zombie waves. While the game is technically a shooter, the team survival aspects separates it from the pack and multiplayer, in which you can take the role of a survivor or zombie, makes the overall package very worthwhile.
