Killzone 2 Demo Coming Prior to Game’s Release

Killzome 2 Demo Coming to PSN on February 26th

Scott Steinberg, VP of Product Marketing at Sony Computer Entertainment America, recently spoke with the MTV Multiplayer Blog to discuss why Killzone 2, the presumed blockbuster exclusive for the PS3, would only have a demo available to those who pre-order the game at GameStop. Here is what he had to say about the matter and what Sony is doing for those who do not pre-order:

“Offering a playable demo to motivate preorders speaks to our confidence in the appeal of a game such as Killzone 2. We take this approach when we are convinced that the experience will cement a consumer’s interest in purchasing. Retailers will then merchandise those demos within their stores and online to maximize their visibility. Through this process, consumers are often times able to reserve their copy of the final game, which provides an incentive to purchase and helps seal the deal. We also offer demos on the PSN, which we have done in the past with great success, and will continue to make that available. Killzone 2, for example, will have a downloadable demo launch in North America the week that the game is launching, for consumers who prefer that option.”

That’s right. For those not willing to go all-in and pre-order the game without trying it, you will be able to download a demo of Killzone 2 from the PlayStation Store (which received an update today) on February 26th, one day before the game’s release on Friday February 27th.

Sony continues to keep the good momentum rolling with better marketing, serious talk of a price drop and now a demo for their hottest title in the early part of 2009. Maybe they are coming to their senses or maybe they simply listened to the latest episode of the Video Game Jocks Podcast where me and PS3 Fanboy’s Jem Alexander wondered why they would not allow anyone with two thumbs access to this demo. Either way, Sony had made a great decision. Now here’s hoping the game is actually able to live up to its massive hype.

  • I don’t want to play the demo for this game. I would hate to get all excited, but not satisfied. This is game that I want to get, then a take a day off of work, close the mini-blinds and play till my eyes bleed.
