New Releases 1/19/2009: Kick Flippin’

A sequel to an upstart turned genre (despite its small size) leader is the headliner this week. Probably the first broad reaching title of the new year and, based upon the demo which was both an upgrade yet stayed familiar enough to fall right back into, could be the first big seller of 2009.

Skate came out in 2007 as the new kid on the block and that block only had one resident who was an 800 pound gorilla.  That gorilla was Tony Hawk. Fast forward to the present day and Tony Hawk hasn’t been seen since and Skate 2 (Xbox 360, PS3) is poised to ascend to the top of the skateboarding game heap. With it’s intuitive stick controls, realistic skating and, with modes like Hall of Meat, still enough fun for any level of player, Skate 2 seems like it could be a great pick-up for skating and gaming fans alike.
