Album of the Week #30

Glasvegas – Glasvegas

glasvegasFormed in 2006, the Scottish group Glasvegas has been getting more and more attention as they go on.  First discovered by Creation Records guru Alan McGee.  By 2007 they had signed to the indie label Sane Man records.  That same year they released the single “Daddy’s Gone” to critical success and it burned up the indie charts in their native UK.  By the following year they began to receive even more attention when they were signed to a major record deal with Columbia records and eventually putting out their self titled debut album.  With a mix of inspiration from the 50’s and 60’s musical styles like doo- wop, rockabilly, and pop-rock they they hit the music scene with a sound that was both original and familiar.  It is my opinion that this may be the best album of 2008.
