An inciteful and well written article. I think the key issue with video games and their relationship with the act of procreation is related to the level of interactivity. The whole hot-coffee nonsense was really about the fact that the player had to interact with the digital avatar on the screen. That was one step too far and thus gave the game an ESRB rating of AO, effectively banning it from consoles as Sony and Microsoft do not allow AO games to be released on their systems.

I'm sure there will be a time when sex in video games will be treated in a similar vein to other forms of entertainment media. Sadly we're going to have to wait for the current generation to die off before we see any progress in this arena.

if the game's cancellation was to generate some headline publicity then I am sure we would see it made.

I thoroughly enjoyed that article. I agree that not very much progress has been made with sex in videogames. Mostly though, it doesn't seem like they really have a place in videogames right now. I mean the member in GTA DLC was totally unnecessary and it feels like Rockstar did it solely for shock value, which is immature at best. I had no problem with it, but it seemed childish regardless.

Games just haven't gotten to the point where emotional relationships are close enough to merit intercourse (you did have to work for it in Mass Effect, if I recall correctly, so good on them for that) , and gratuitous sex is still taboo.

I think to get sex into videogames the things that are being done by companies like Bioware and Rockstar need to continue, but they need to be careful.
