Capcom officially announced today that it will be releasing it’s 2-D fanboy fighter Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 as a downloadable game this summer. The game will be released on both the Playstation 3 and the Xbox 360 via their respective digital distribution services.
In Marvel vs. Capcom 2, players can choose from 56 characters from Marvel comics and Capcom games, mix them into three-fighter teams, and deploy a bevy of outrageously over-the-top, screen-filling special attacks against their opponents. Designed as an introduction to the fighter genre, this version of the game will sport a simplified version of the six-button control scheme of the original game. The game will also include an updated visual filter for improved appearance, and online modes like ranked matches and “Quarter” matches that allow four players to watch two other players fight.
Fans that love the game, but haven’t wanted to pay the inflated prices for used copies will only have to wait until the game’s release this summer. No specific date has been announced yet, but a price has been set at 1200 MS Points ($15) on Xbox 360, which would translate to a $14.99 price point on the PS3.
