E3: The Good, The Bad, The Ugly



Another year, another E3. Even now, all the news that came out of the gaming show is still swirling around in my head, refusing to settle. To help myself, as well as all of you curious readers, I have decided to take the biggest news (in my opinion) and categorize it. Feel free to disagree with me, just make sure you post a comment telling me why you do!

I will continue to add to this list as I recall more information. Feel free to tell me about anything I don’t have on here.

The Good

Crackdown 2 Announced
Project Natal
Sony’s Motion Control
Mass Effect 2 (Follow up Article incoming in a few days, Game of the Show)
Two new Mario games coming to the Wii (New Super Mario Bros. Wii, Mario Galaxy 2)
Star Wars: The Old Republic Trailer
Alan Wake isn’t dead
The Last Guardian
MAG
Metroid: Other M
Actual Gameplay (Assassin’s Creed 2, Modern Warfare 2)
Strong showing for the PSP (Metal Gear Solid: Peacewalker, Resident Evil)
Forza 3 Motorsports and Gran Turismo 5 / PSP.

The Bad

Final Fantasy XIV…is an online game.
EA and Ubisoft are focusing a bit too much on the “tween” demographic.
The word “Tween”
Tony Hawk: Ride
No PS3 Price Drop
Not a big showing for XBLA or PSN games. (Sans Shadow Complex, which looks incredible)

The Ugly

Wii Vitality Sensor
Final Fantasy XIII not coming out in 2009.
PSP Go! (Price, and the actual unit)
Microsoft’s terrible implementation of social-networking.
Nothing on: Bioshock 2, Lost Planet 2, or Dead Rising 2.

The Undecided

Madden 10. Online seems stronger this year, but will it just be another Madden?
Last.FM. I can get this on my laptop, so if I can’t play the songs while in-game, the feature is pointless.

    I saw them demo Lost Planet 2 on G4. Was it not playable on the show floor?

    I don’t know, I didn’t see anything about it, at least not enough. Might take it off and add a different game instead.

    Last FM is pointless because you can do it on your laptop? Yeah you can also listen to it on your laptop with the horrible little laptop speakers… OR, you can do it on XBL with your surround sound, Turtle Beach headset, or whatever your particular sound setup is… Even TV speakers are better than most laptop speakers. That’s of course assuming you don’t have a juiced up laptop setup, or that you don’t hook your laptop up to an audio system, which no one that I know of does. I say it’s a good option. And PS3 owners don’t be bummed this service isn’t coming to PS3… the PS3 web browser streams Pandora internet radio in full stereo sound, and for those who haven’t tried both, Pandora kicks the s*** out of last FM, IMO.
