P*N You Decide: Who Is Sony’s Gaming Mascot?



If asked about Microsoft’s gaming mascot, the majority of people will instantly say it is Master Chief. For Nintendo, the clear answer for many people is Mario. But for Sony, who is that one video game character that is unarguably the mascot for the company. When asked on the Platform Nation Forums (go visit there!) many different characters were suggested. Solid Snake, Ratchet and Clank, Sackboy, Cole McGrath (Infamous), Drake, Kratos and others were in the running. So, Platform Nation readers, I leave it to you! Sound off in the comments of this post. Pick from the suggestions or vote for a character no one has thought of yet. Who is Sony’s one and only mascot?!

    noun
    a person or thing that is supposed to bring good luck or that is used to symbolize a particular event or organization

    Well if this is the definition of mascot then clearly Sony’s mascot is the PS3… There really is no constant in any of Sony’s marketing except for the PS3 console itself
    However if I had to pick a game character it would be Kratos because he is the most well known character in the most well know IP that Sony owns

    I would say Cloud from FFVII. Like Master Chief and Mario, he’s stood the test of time. Although no more games were made with him, people still love him, and FFVII really set the bar for RPG’s when it came out.

    Plus there was that movie…Duh! ZOMG!

    I think it depends on how Sony wants to Market the PS3.

    those are my choices. R&C has had the most game appearances of the 3, so I would vote for that duo.

    Ratchet and Clank has made numerous appearances on Sony consoles and have been great games. Sack Boy has become probably the most recognized as of lately, but my vote goes to Kratos as he is my favorite. His attitude, brawn and bad ass blades makes this an easy choice for me, plus he sports a great looking goatee

    The tough part is indeed finding someone for everyone. We can all get down with the plumber and the hedgehog but the Chief? Plus everything keeps going multi-platform. Sack Boy would be the best bet if LBP had been more successful. (I wish it had)

    How about a car from Gran Turismo?

    But seriously. Scary as he is, I’d say Kratos.

    I think Ratchet and Clank should be the mascot of Playstation because they have played a major role in the success and growth of the company for years!!

    Even with LBP not being the success gamers thought it would be (saleswise), everyone recognizes the cuteness of that little guy (just not in the picture used for this post).

    Kratos; I see the PS3 as a system for big boys, and even though God of War 3 isn’t out yet, I feel like he embodies what the PS3 really is: a beast.

    I’m going to vote for Cloud from FFVII also, not only because that was my favorite game, but if we’re talking about a game that did something awesome for a system in it’s early days, I think Cloud would be a great choice. Plus it’s cool to have a mascot that can swing a GIANT sword around effortlessly!

    It’s Sackboy for now. Gonna be interesting to see if Final Fantasy XIII gives us something.

    Cloud for me harks back to another gaming era.
