Earlier this week, director of Pan’s Labyrinth and the upcoming Hobbit film, Guillermo Del Toro teased on a forum that he was to be starting a new project based around the letter “D”.
In a few days there will be a BIG announcement (big for me, at least) that is not-Hobbit related. BEFORE anyone starts wondering the usual “how does he have time?, Is this detracting form The Hobbit?” etc It is a project that started over 2 years ago, before The Hobbit and will render fruits in the mid-term, not intruding on my Hobbit duties. Rest assured. The key letter is “D”
The internet was alive with different rumours, all stemming from the “D” clue. Well, today at Disney’s D23 panel, the man himself announced he was to be starting a new animation label within Disney called “Disney Double Dare You”, aiming to provide “new animated films full of chills and thrills for audiences of all ages.”
Del Toro will be in charge of producing all of the films under this banner, but he is also set to direct a number of them. Little else is actually known however. “The emphasis is on fun, and we have some great ideas already on the storyboards,” he said, so I guess we can expect the classic Del Toro vision to play into this to some degree.
Still, I’m excited for this. He managed to make an absolutely beautiful fairytale story in the form of Pan’s Labyrinth, although that isn’t so much for kids, but I’m interested to see where he will go with this.
