I saw next to nothing on the major sites (IE: IGN, GameSpot, Kotaku, Joystiq), but the Twitter feeds that I follow had people going to it. I searched tirelessly looking for an official site, but came up empty. Why have a conference without an official site? That doesn’t make much sense, especially for such a huge industry as the gaming industry. At any rate, one of my new Twitter buddies that I met through a mutual gaming friend, started GoGamingGiant this past year, and he was invited to X09. His thoughts overall:
The first thing that struck me was that there were nowhere near as many games as X08. In fact I can give you a list of every game there:
Forza [Motorsport] 3
Splinter Cell: Conviction
Tony Hawk: Ride
GTA IV: The Ballad of Gay Tony
Beatles: Rock Band
Halo 3: ODST
South Park (XBLA)
Serious Sam HD (XBLA)
Left 4 Dead 2
That was it. There may be one or two more I’m missing, but I think that was it. It was much smaller than X08.
He managed to get some hands-on time with a few titles set for release very soon. Those are GTA IV: The Ballad of Gay Tony, DJ Hero, Left 4 Dead 2, and Tony Hawk’s RIDE. He was also given a demonstration of Splinter Cell Conviction.
I’m personally hoping to get a chance to go to one of the ‘X’ conferences at some point. Being 29 (30 by then), I may not look as out-of-place with a media badge as Matt looked (had to do it, dude), but I’ll certainly be just as stoked to see all of those pre-release titles.
