Games On The Silver Screen: Prince of Persia

prince-of-persia-logoLast week, in case you missed it, brought us our first look at the brand-spankin’-new Prince of Persia trailer. Directed by Mike Newell (Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire) and starring Jake Gyllenhaal (Donnie Darko) as Prince Dastan, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time (because movies with a colon in them always do better than those without one) is another Jerry Bruckheimer produced film in the same vein as Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (see, there’s that colon again).

PoPFrom the little bit of forum chatter I’ve seen, it looks like people are expecting Prince of Persia to be the “first good video game movie.” Personally, I enjoyed the first Resident Evil and Silent Hill, but that’s neither here nor there. What about you, though? Does Prince of Persia look good to you? And what about Jake G. as Dastan?

Also, Kotaku posted an article where they mentioned an interview they had with Ubisoft chairman Yves Guillemot:

[…] Prince of Persia which “will show what a video game property can do in the (movie) industry… What we hear is that it could maybe be stronger than Pirates (of the Caribbean) which did 2.7 billion dollars worldwide.”

I’m skeptical about that one, but I guess only time will tell. Check out the trailer below.
