You most likely need a new inline audio controller. Microsoft changed their controllers a few months ago. Tritton has a new audio controller that they will send you for free. I had the same issue. I called and they sent me my new audio controller in a week. Now everything works perfect.

I've contacted Tritton; hopefully we'll hear some official comment about the issue with new controllers soon. In the meantime, I would recommend following the advice outlined in the above comment if you're having issues.

Here is an email I received from their technical department:

Some newer controllers from Microsoft are having communication issues when used with some of our AX180 units.

We have a replacement part that will work with all of Microsoft's controllers.

If you have a Microsoft Xbox Controller with the following numbers on the Barcode Sticker under the battery, and you cannot get the AX180 to communicate on Xbox Live, we will swap your AX180 in-line volume controller at no charge:

817145-004 (white)
817145-006 (black)
817145-008 (red)

This issue does NOT affect any other Tritton products, and has not been reproduced on any controllers other then the models specified above

The first time I called the technical support phone number I talked to a guy who had no idea what the problem was and told me it was going to take a month to get my new audio controller. I called again after I received the email. It took me about three times calling till I was actually able to speak with someone who knew what the problems was. They took down my information and informed me that my new audio controller will ship out the next day and arrive next week. I received an email verifying that the packaged has shipped and will arrive the fourth of February, exactly one week after I called.

You just have to keep calling during the week. Hopefully you will get somebody who knows what you are talking about and will be able to help you.

Having the same mic trouble as everyone else. Won't work with brand new controlled (black) but works with older controller (also black) both are wireless. As you plug in and unplug the audio jack, you can see the mic symbol pop up for a sec and then go away. And we're not idiots, everything is plugged in correctly and switched to the correct position. Cannot contact Trittion, getting pissed.

I use the white wired controller and I still have the problem. It only occurs when someone speaks too loudly or more than one person is talking. During that period of time my mic will disconnect and I will not be able to speak to other players. I have tried to call tritton and and ask them but their customer support is absolutely terrible. I've called 3 times only to get the same message each time telling me there is no one available.

Well could you suggest a better sound quality Headset that can be used on the PS3 360 and PC? Around same price range as a 180? Or would 180 be best bang for buck.

Most likely you'll find that they are. The 720s have simulated surround sound, while the 180s are stereo only, so you get very few directional cues in games where directional sound is an important gameplay element (like Modern Warfare 2). You may also want to shop around online for the AX Pro, which has true 5.1 surround sound and can be found fro around the same price as the 720s from certain retailers.

I am looking at either the AX180 or the AX720. Are the 720's really worth the extra 50-70$ they will cost me? Or should I stick with the 180 since they are cheaper.
