Get To Know P*N’s Staff: Rane Pollack

So what if our next writers sisters gamerscore is making his look bad.  He is still a gamer and hopes Santa will fill his stocking with some PS3 games.  Without further ado here’s Gemini Ace.

My name is Rane Pollock.  I’ve been a writer for Platform Nation since the beginning of this year.  I’ve been on a bit of a hiatus lately since I got laid off from my previous employer.  Fortunately, I was able to find another job.  I should be coming back with some new articles and reviews soon.  Until then, you can enjoy all the other talented people who write for the site.

Basically, I’m a 34 year old guy that loves games.  I’ve been bouncing around the community for over four years now, frequenting message boards, listening to podcasts, and now writing for P*N.  It all started when I got Xbox LIVE and discovered the guys over at  From there I jumped over to (now defunct) and joined some other guys doing a show called GameTalk.  We ran for over 30 episodes before we disbanded.  From there I continued doing a podcast with my sister dedicated to the game Animal Crossing Wild World on the DS.  It’s not easy staying dedicated to one particular game on a podcast, and we eventually realized we needed to re-brand ourselves.  Thus, The Uncanny Gamers were born.

On a more personal note, I’ve been married for four years.  My wife and I have had two sons.  It really limits the time I can spend gaming, but it’s the most rewarding experience in the world to be a dad.  I wouldn’t trade it for anything!  I have a younger sister that is a bigger gamer than I am.  She has a gamerscore that puts mine to shame.  And I’ve had a 360 since launch!

I’m currently finishing up Resident Evil 5 on the 360.  Next up is some Guitar Hero 5/Guitar Hero Van Halen.  I’ve also got a bunch of demos on the PS3 that I want to check out.  I have my fingers crossed to get some PS3 games for Christmas this year.  Uncharted and ModNation Racers are at the top of my list.  Not to mention the God of War collection.

Some of my favorite movies are the Die Hard quadrology (is that a word?), The Bourne trilogy, and Anchorman The Legend of Ron Burgundy.  I love action and sci-fi movies the most.  My favorite TV shows of all time are Seinfeld, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and Friends.  I’m also a huge music geek.  I love bands like Pearl Jam, Bowling For Soup, and Blue October.

You can always find me on Twitter @GeminiAce.  My XBL tag is Gemini Ace and on PSN I’m GeminiAce (no space!).  Pretty much, that’s my handle everywhere I go.  The doctor looks at me funny when I introduce myself that way, but that’s just how I roll.

“Is there a Rane Pollack here?”. “No. But there is a GEMINI ACE here”.

  • Hey team Kenny over here feels the pain of the sting of unemployment as well. We are too in the same boat. It one of life’s little ack moments when you suddenly get all this free time to play games but you don’t have any money to by them. It reminds me of “time enough at last” on Twilight Zone…;recap

  • Aw look at Rane all grown up and writing bios of himself. I’m sure you’re putting all that hard practice to work! :p
