Next up we bring you one of our writers from Texas. Let’s see what Danny that prefers Sony over Microsoft has to say:
Hi, my name is José Colmenares, but everyone calls me Danny (just to get any confusion out of the way, no Danny is not short for José, my middle name is Daniel). I’m half Colombian on my dad’s side but I was born and raised in the great state of Texas. My hometown is Frisco Texas, which is an extremely fast growing city just north of Dallas.
Just a little bit about me, I was baptized at the age of 8 by my grandfather in English and Spanish and I thank God everyday for the life He has given me. Soccer is my favorite sport to play and Football and Hockey are my favorite to watch. I have played trumpet for about 12 years and I was pretty good. I have been playing video games since the original Nintendo and currently own only the PlayStation 3. To be perfectly honest I prefer Sony to Microsoft. That’s not to say I hate the 360, but I prefer a system that isn’t quite so delicate, I’m just sayin. That being said, the 360 has some great games, and I will be getting one soon =).
I currently attend Texas Tech University, which was probably the greatest decision I made coming out of High School. I have been dating the most amazing person I’ve ever met for over a year and a half now and I already know I’ll be spending the rest of my life with her. Love you Tiff!
My dream is to someday be involved in making video games of my own. Whether that be level design, programming, game design or whatever, I just want to do something that makes me happy. My dad always tells me that if you do something that you love, you’ll never have to work a day in your life. I’m planning on moving back to Frisco when I graduate, and there’s this little company stationed nearby called Gearbox Software, maybe you’ve heard of them? Perhaps you’ve played Brothers in Arms? Borderlands ring a bell? Yeah, they’re awesome and I hope to get a job there sometime after I graduate, so if any of you Gearbox employees are reading, I’m just sayin’… Haha OK enough for that shameless self-plug, now on to more pertinent things…
So how did I become a part of Platform Nation’s awesome staff? Well I’m glad you asked! Believe it or not, Twitter and a friend of mine landed me this sweet gig. To be perfectly honest I had never visited or even heard of this online community until a friend of mine told me he got a tweet about a video game writing job. He was like, hey how cool would it be if you wrote about video games for a website, and I was like, yeah that would be awesome! So even though I thought it was a long shot, I checked it out, contacted Steve and Scott, and then applied. So yeah, it seems Twitter can be used for good! Who knew?
So, lets talk games. My favorite games of all time – Final Fantasy VII and VIII. Yeah, I’m one of those people who started at VII and then instantly became a fan of RPG’s. I didn’t know how important the story was in a game until I played Final Fantasy VII. Then a close second is VIII, I don’t care who you are, that gunblade idea is freakin awesome. Oh, and I’m also a monster when it comes to Tekken, I got that platinum trophy in 6 days, Bryan Fury rules. But yeah, I love all kinds of games – Sports, FPS, RPG, Action, Strategy, and especially ones you can play with friends. I’m waiting for someone to come out with some sort of MMORPG on the console side that rocks (hoping that Final Fantasy XIV will be the console equivalent of WOW in terms of awesomeness and popularity, but we’ll see).
So I’m feeling that this is going on a little long so I will go ahead and cut it here because I could probably talk games all day! If anyone ever wants to game, send a friend request with the subject “Platform Nation” (cause sometimes I get random friend requests, and I’m like do I know this person? And I get confused) to my PSN ID: Disciple027, and then hopefully coming soon my Xbox LIVE account – Disciple027 (assuming that handle isn’t already taken). I’ll add my LIVE account info to my profile when I get my 360. Also, if you want to follow me on Twitter, please feel free! Thanks for reading everyone, God Bless and Wreck Em Tech!
Thanks for the bio and the intense look into what makes you tick! Keeping our fingers crossed for you that someone from Gearbox might have read this (that was our shameless plug for you).
