For the past week, internet forums have been abuzz about glitches and cheats in Modern Warfare 2. The most prominent of them is the javelin glitch that turns the culprit into a suicide bomber that can kills everyone within a 100 foot radius. On smaller maps, it could potentially take out all the players. The javelin glitch exists on the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC version of the game. No fun.
Stephen Toulouse, Director of Xbox LIVE Policy and Enforcement, confirms via Twitter that while Infinity Ward is working on a patch, players caught using the glitch will get a suspension from Xbox Live. Stephen goes into further detail in the latest installment of Major Nelson Radio (18:40 – 27:39). Oddly enough, while Microsoft has taken a stance on the issue, a Sony representative states that “I don’t believe we are banning people for using the glitch.”
That statement precedes another recently discovered problem with Modern Warfare 2 leaderboards on the PS3. PlayStation Network users may see people in top slots with impossible statistics such as logging thousands of days of game time. Neither Activision nor Infinity Ward has announced if leaderboards will be reset or how they’ll deal with the issue.

Activision’s Robert Bowling tweets that fixes for the javelin glitch and other cheats are in the works for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. In terms of the Xbox 360 version , the fix is now in Microsoft’s hands for certification.
