Activision has officially announced the newest installment in the Transformers saga with Transformers: War for Cybertron. Activision also announced that the game is currently in development for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, DS, and PC and has a “promised” released date of 2010. The publisher’s High Moon Studios has been tasked with the development duties. The studio is best known for 2008’s well-regarded Robert Ludlum’s The Bourne Conspiracy, as well as the original Xbox and PlayStation 2 title Darkwatch from 2005.
Transformers: War of Cybertron focuses on the origins of the Transformers, putting gamers on the planet Cybertron as both the Autobots and Decepticons. Players will engage in the civil war of Autobots and Decepticons over the destruction of Cybertron. The game takes place before Optimus, Bumble Bee, Megatron, and the rest of the “Robots in Disguise” make their appearance on Earth, gamers will also be able to see the robots transforming into their original Cybertronian forms.
Activision also gave some more details that the War for Cybertron will feature two original story arcs. The first half of the game with the heroic Autobots, who are severely outgunned in their effort to save the planet. The second half of the campaign will put players on the destructive side as the overpowering Decepticons. In addition to single-player action, War for Cybertron features online co-op play, as well as head-to-head multiplayer battling. For more information pick up this month’s GameInformer magazine.
