In a surprise move, EA Sports is allowing us gamers to pick the cover athlete for Madden NFL 11. By teaming up with Doritos, the duo is letting fans cast votes for either the Minnesota Vikings’ Jared Allen, New Orleans Saints’ Drew Brees, or Indianapolis Colts’ Reggie Wayne with the leading vote-getter earning the honor of gracing the cover of the 2011 iteration of the Madden NFL franchise.
As Kotaku pointed out, a strong point of contention is Jared Allen’s candidacy in that no lineman has ever made the cover of a Madden game. It will be interesting to break the trend with such a pick, but given that most of the people voting don’t care about change so much as big names, Brees will probably take the majority of the votes anyways.
Of course, that does mean the Saints will have to deal with a cursed quarterback next season, but what do fans care, right? Don’t forget to visit the Doritos site to cast your vote (requires registration, but then you can vote unfettered once a day after). Voting also enters you into a drawing to win a weekly grand prize consisting a trip for two to this year’s NFL draft in New York City and what many of your friends will consider an “unbearable amount” of gloating.
Also, be sure to not skip the intro video. I don’t know about you, but I definitely enjoy being confused and assaulted by flash videos.
