Welcome to PlatformNation.com’s weekly feature which tell you the games that you need to care about coming out in the next week.
This week, there are two major releases:
Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and Supreme Commander 2
My view: Battlefield Bad Company 2 could be a genuine contender for the crown of best online multiplayer first person shooter. I am basing this on the various issues that Modern Warfare 2 has had since launch which have required multiple patches. Many gamers have lost interest in MW2 as a result and if Bad Company 2 gets everything right then their timing could be perfect to dethrone Modern Warfare 2. This time round the game is also being released on the PC and a big selling point is the inclusion of dedicated servers (something excluded from Modern Warfare 2 to the horror of PC gamers).
US: 2nd March
Europe: 5th March
Supreme Commander 2: is a real-time strategy game developed by Gas Powered Games and published by Square Enix. It is a sequel to Supreme Commander. Scheduled to be released in 2010 on March 2 for Microsoft Windows and March 16 for Xbox 360.
My view: When I hear that an RTS is being developed for a console release as well as the PC, I get concerned that it may be a watered down experience (Red Alert 3). Gas Powered Games claim that this time around, the game has been developed from the ground up for both the PC and the Xbox 360, so I have high hopes that both versions can deliver. Supreme Commander sits proudly as the second longest gameplay time on my Raptr playlist, so I will definitely be picking this up for the PC. If you are still sitting on the fence, I recommend downloading the demo which is available on Steam.
