What do you get when you cross Grand Theft Auto and the wild wild west? You get Red Dead Redemption, and I just got a hands on demo at PAX East with Rockstars next big hit and it is as awesome as you would think. From the wide open world to the weapon selection you have at your disposal this breathes GTA except you are on the countryside, and no more do you need to “jack” a car as you would in GTA as your horse is a whistle away. Red Dead Redemption also brings something you are not used to from Rockstar as there is no health packs laying around or hot dog vendors on the corner. Your health actually regenerates once you take cover and forget the armor as you would expect in GTA because lets face it there was no armor back then. The weapons are ones you would find in the wild west and would expect any cowboy to use including an outlaw like John Marston.
Rockstar takes Red Dead Redemption to a place I think we will come to love from the awesome graphics to the gameplay Red Dead Redemption will deliver and give you the feel of GTA without all the hustle and bustle of city life, but the action will be there in this open world game, and no need to be a fan of westerns, because John Marston will change your mind.
I didn’t get much time with the game, because the overwhelming crowds at PAX East it seemed like everyone wanted to get their hands on this one, also nobody was allowed to take pictures of what we where seeing while we where playing but if you have read any other of Platform Nation’s coverage of the game the trailers almost mimic the gameplay almost exactly. I would like to thank Rockstars PR for giving me their valuable time in answering my questions I had about the game. Look for this one May 18th in the US and May 21st in Europe and stay tuned as Rockstar is going to release details about the upcoming multiplayer portion of the game the week of April 5th.
