Right now, when most people think of “iPad”, they don’t usually think of portable gaming. The semi-portable device known as the iPad doesn’t release until tomorrow, yet many people have obtained it already, and over 700 games have been released for the system so far. For many purchasers of the iPad that happen to be gamers as well, “Sam & Max: The Penal Zone” is one of the top priorities for them to download, or at least should be.
Telltale Games, the developer of the Sam & Max adventure game series, released a press release this morning on the announcement that the first episode of the third season of Sam & Max, titled “The Devil’s Playhouse”, would release to the iPad App Store exclusively on that date, nearly two weeks before the main PSN and PC releases. Each of the five episodes of “The Devil’s Playhouse” will be released for the iPad as well on a monthly basis, with each episode costing $9.99 each.
In the press release, Dan Connors, CEO of Telltale Games, states, ““We are tremendous fans of Apple and are extremely excited to have our longest running game series available for the launch of iPad. The iPad is an outstanding device for gaming and we’re excited to bring the first of many of our games to the App Store starting today.”
So, aside from the actual game being up right now, what else does this press release mean? Dan Connors’ statement tells us that “The Penal Zone” is “the first of many of our games to the App Store…” The statement “first of many” signifies that there are most likely more to come. This could possibly just be referring to the next 4 episodes of “The Devil’s Playhouse”, but it could also mean other series by Telltale, or more seasons of Sam & Max. Telltale Games is also known quite well for their other adventure series “Tales of Monkey Island”, “Strong Bad’s Cool Game for Attractive People”, “Wallace and Gromit’s Grand Adventures”, and the “CSI” video games. Could we see more of those in the future? I sure hope so.
