Unofficially announced on the 9th April and expected to be officially announced in the next 24 hours or so, Gears Of War 3 will conclude the trilogy for Marcus Fenix and his battle against the Locust hordes.
Gears of war 2 actually raised more questions than answers as far as the storyline goes and with matchmaking issues upon release, fans of the series will have a long wish list for the third game in the series.
So to start the P*N hype machine in anticipation for Gears of War 3, here are some of our wishes for it.
[12th April UPDATE] Give us 3D. It’s the 3rd in the series and this time next year, 3D TVs will be less expensive and more people will have them. Give us the option to play in 3D [UPDATE]
More than 2 player co-op. 4 player co-op seems to be the standard these days and although I’m set in my ways and prefer the story driven single player mode of any game, I’d be lying if I said that having a human companion playing it with you isn’t better than simply computer AI. Couple this with the fact that for large parts of the previous 2 games, Marcus has had 3 fellow COGs to keep him company, it makes sense that Epic should make 4 player co-op a possibility.
Drop-in, drop-out co-op. Crackdown for me set the standard for story co-op play in regards to the way that anyone could drop in at anytime to join in your game. Lets make sure Gears of War 3 has this.
Destructible cover. OK so yes we had this in Gears 1 but surely anyone who hides behind a sofa (settee) should expect it to offer limited cover, but some of the weapons on display should be able to destroy any cover you try to hide behind.
Linear paths. Don’t stray too far from what has proven successful in the two previous games. Scripted sequences are part of what has appealed to the many Gears fans. The game is big, loud and at times just plain stupid but this is part of its appeal.
Story line. For Gods sake, please tie up the many loose ends left after the second game and please do not fall into the same trap as The Matrix trilogy which ended up spoiling the memory of the first film.
Bright Environments. Any chance of using a different color than brown, Epic?
Matchmaking. Just make it work out of the box this time around.
Finally, one of the rumors doing the rounds on the internet is that there may be an underwater level. I plead and beg with Epic to remove it now if they are planning one. Ever since the underwater levels in Sonic I have hated them.
