P*N New This Week 18th April 2010

Welcome to Platform Nation’s weekly feature which tells you the games that you need to care about that are coming out in the next week.

My pick for this week is:

Monster Hunter 3

Monster Hunter 3 is the third console installment in the Monster Hunter franchise, developed by Capcom and was actually released for the Wii in Japan on August 1, 2009. This week, the rest of the world can get its hand on the game.

My View: It may be my pick of the week, partly due to the huge monsters you fight but also partly due to the lack of games being released this week. The Monster Hunter series has been hugely successful in Japan but has struggled to replicate this success elsewhere.  Monster Hunter 3 is currently showing a score of 88% in metacritic and is only the 20th game in history to receive 40/40 in Famitsu, so I’ll be watching the reception from the rest of the world with interest.  Maybe it’ll be the game that makes me dust off the Wii.

Other notable releases this week:

The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom (PC)

Harvest Moon: Hero of Leaf Valley (PSP)

AfterBurner Climax (X360, PS3)

Sherlock Holmes vs. Jack The Ripper (X360)

Beat City (DS)

House M.D (DS)

Why not leave a comment below telling us which game(s) you’ll be picking up this week?

  • I think you forgot that Splinter Cell: Conviction came out on the 16th in europe, so will that count as this weeks release? or is this just the US releases?

  • Mark Withers. (MarkWithers)

SC:C in Europe was released this past week so unfortunately i couldn’t include it. Even the PC version comes out the following week.

  • Dorian Whittley

I plan on getting this. I was going to write an impression article since I have a demo of the game.

  • Jonathan Irvine

The Sherlock Holmes Vs. Jack the Ripper got pushed off until next week, if anybody went off looking for it.

  • I love Dr. House and i always watch this TV series after my day job.;~’
