P*N New This Week. 16th May 2010

Welcome to Platform Nation’s weekly feature which tell you the games that you need to care about coming out in the next week.

Each week as well as bringing you news about which games are due to hit the shelves in the seven days ahead, the PlatformNation writer will choose their pick of the week.

This week sees a number of major releases fighting for your hard earned cash and attention. In fact it’s one of the toughest weeks this year to pick just one title to highlight but here we go,

My pick for this week is:

Red Dead Redemption

Red Dead Redemption: is a sandbox action-adventure western video game developed by Rockstar. It is a spiritual successor to 2004’s Red Dead Revolver.  It is due for release on May 18, 2010 in North America and on May 21, 2010 in Europe and Australia for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

My View: Grand Theft Auto 4 in the Wild West!  Maybe this statement is doing Red Dead Redemption an injustice but that’s how I imagine this game will feel. I’ve always been a huge fan of the entire Grand Theft Auto series and Rockstar have not let me down yet, so when you combine their story telling skills with the Western setting, I simply do not see how this game can be a failure.  Even the multiplayer has got me excited and I can’t wait to team up with players from the PlatformNation community to kick some Wild West butt.  Up to 16 players will be able to take part in the mulitplayer modes and the freeroam multiplayer reminds me of Burnout Paradise and if they manage to pull off something similar in RDR it will be great. There just seems to be so much to do in this game with sidequests complementing the main storyline as we have come to expect from a Rockstar game.

Like most major releases these days, there is a morality system so you can choose what type of cowboy you want to be. Me, I’ll be a badass outlaw as much as I can but I am sure I will struggle with some of the moral choices that will be put infront of me as the story progresses.

The full rundown. As well as my pick of the week the following games are due for release:

X360: Split Second, Attack of the Movies 3D,  Shrek Forever After,  Alan Wake (released in Europe last week), Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands, Red Dead Redemption

Wii: Shrek Forever After, Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands, Attack of the Movies 3D, Trauma Team,

PS3: Split Second, Shrek Forever After, Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands, Red Dead Redemption

DS: Shrek Forever After, Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands, Blue Dragon: Awakened Shadow,

PC: Runaway: A Twist of Fate, Lost Planet 2,

PSP: Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands,

This is definately a big week for massive releases so why not tell Platform Nation what game(s) you will be picking up this week? Leave a comment below.

My 360 died on me so I’ll only have Red Dead on the PS3 for comfort. Should be more than enough. Was 3/4 of the way through Wake before my 360 RROD’d, so I’ll try and get back to that after I get it repaired.

  • I think Red Dead is everyone’s pick of the week. It’s going to be great!

  • I’m incredibly excited for Alan Wake as it is, Red Dead will, sadly, have to wait for now.

  • Red Dead for the win for me this week, I will be picking up Split Second maybe next week. Here’s to my backlog!

  • First choice for me is Split/Second (tomorrow) then probably Alan Wake and Prince of Persia shortly after, then maybe, eventually Red Dead Redemption.

  • If I had $60 to spend, it would be on Split/Second.
