To kick the month off right, Sony has started a few deals on PSP titles and bundles. First off, the new “Favorites” initiative will feature $9.99 titles (the PR does not mention if these are downloadable or UMD titles). The list of Favorites includes
- Ape Escape: On The Loose
- Buzz! Master Quiz
- Hot Shots Golf Open Tee
- Justice League Heroes
- LocoRoco 2
- Manhunt 2
- Midway Arcade Treasures: Extended Play
- Patapon 2
- Pinball Hall Of Fame: Williams Collection
- PixelJunk Monster Deluxe
- Silent Hill: Origins
- The Sims 2
- SOCOM: Fireteam Bravo
- Syphon Filter: Logan’s Shadow
- Twisted Metal: Head On
- The Warriors
Additionally, LittleBigPlanet, Gran Turismo, Secret Agent Clank, and Resistance: Retribution will be joining the Greatest Hits line at $19.99.
Finally, if you purchase a PSPgo in the next year, you will receive a download voucher for LittleBigPlanet, Ratchet And Clank: Size Matters, and SOCOM: Fireteam Bravo 3.
Still, while the price drops are almost expected on a lot of titles, the PSPgo deal seems more of a obvious desire to catch up to the dominating Nintendo DS. The PSPgo has floundered incredibly on shelves, with not every title being downloadable on the console, consumer confusion at the retail level, and a general disinterest in original PSP owners to jump to the revamped console. With it’s lack of UMD drive, original PSP owners would have a backlog of now-unplayable games. Considering that the Nintendo 3DS should be coming within the next year, and the iPhone OS has been a surprise contender, Sony needs to step up with the handheld market. The last time I booted up my PSP was for review purposes.
