P*N New This Week: 6th June 2010

Welcome back to another weekly segment where Platform Nation will inform our reader’s of what will be releasing this week.

This week is the week of the shovelware, give or take a couple of greatly anticipated titles releasing this week, so don’t expect much.  However, if you have a PSP, prepare to pick it back up.  Here is the pick of the week.

My Pick of the Week:

Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker

Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker is a series published by Konami and developed by Kojima Productions.  It is the 5th Metal Gear Solid installment on the PSP and is part a long running series of games going back to the Metal Gear(MGX, NES) days.  Peace Walker is set to release in the US on June 8th, 2010 and in the Europe on June 17th, 2010.

My View: Metal Gear Solid is something of a labor of love for Kojima.  No matter how many times he claims he wants to move on from the series, he can’t  help but come back to the masterpiece he created, and honestly, would we want him to leave the series.  The Metal Gear series is like his child.  Something that has grown into itself to make something of a phenomenom, in a sense of the word, and something he has oversaw, grew up with, and put his love, care, and attention into.  Like Mario,  the Metal Gear series made itself into something, though not as kid-friendly, recognizable to all gamers and in return made the name Kojima into something recognizable.

Possibly one of the biggest games to hit the PSP, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker is set to blow our minds once again.  Hideo Kojima, himself, described Peace Walker as being a “true sequel” to the Metal Gear Solid series, so don’t expect a water downed experience because it’s made its way to a handheld.  As mentioned previously, Peace Walker is Kojima’s love and care being poured into the series, as the IP spawned a development crew as massive as was for the fantastic Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots.  The story is to take place after the events of MGS3: Snake Eater and MGS: Portable Ops and before the original Metal Gear back on the NES.  Also Peace Walker puts a strong emphasis on co-op play though, if you so choose to, go it alone, but come on, what fun would that be huh?  If you have a buddy with a PSP, snatch them up, and prepare for some endless hours partaking in covert missions, using team tactics to take out adversaries, and just participating in all-out insane hijinks as a team.  It is the greatest bond of men!!!
