Max Payne 3 Pushed Back Beyond October

Max Payne 3 early promo shot
Everybody’s favourite grumpy sleuth, Max Payne, isn’t a ray of sunshine on the best of days and the news that the third iteration of his series has been delayed until the next fiscal year might well send him into a despairing gloom. Publisher Take-Two Interactive announced the fresh delay yesterday as they released a set of largely positive second quarter results. The company’s performance rose above expectations off the back of popular releases from some of its top franchises, including Red Dead Redemption, BioShock 2, and Major League Baseball 2K10. Significant ongoing sales of Grand Theft Auto IV and NBA2K10 have also contributed to Take-Two’s recent success, with net revenue exceeding last year’s second quarter result by more than 50%.

Chairman Strauss Zelnick praised the output of the developers working in his creative teams and highlighted some of the exciting forthcoming titles from Take-Two in FY 2010, including Mafia II and L.A. Noire. Sadly, Max Payne 3 has been shunted back to next year, having previously been scheduled for a 2010 release, and this means that we’ll have to wait until November at the earliest to step back into the shoes of moody Max. The good news is that there should be plenty of triple-A games headed our way in the meantime to keep us occupied.
