So it’s been almost 2 months since we’ve seen the first teaser trailer for the much-anticipated MvC3, and while it showed a new art style and a few members of the character roster, details surrounding the gameplay have been lacking. Until E3, that is.
Making a follow-up to one of the most beloved fighting games of all time is a daunting task, especially when there have been 10 years in the interim for expectations to rise and nostalgia to settle. However, from these initial videos, it looks like the frenetic feel of the arcade classic has been preserved. Married to the new SF4-esque cel shading, there’s more of a comic book feel than ever, and while it’s a bit difficult to hear, it seems that the legendarily bad soundtrack has been improved. Of course, only time (and balancing issues) will tell whether this game has the chops to stand proudly beside its predecessor – but things are looking good.
