News coming out of E3 today is that Halo Reach will have what Halo 3 ODST was severely lacking; matchmaking in Firefight mode. It seems that Network Generator Test 1 was Bungie’s way of testing the matchmaking for Firefight. Those sneaky bastards.
In addition to this, you will be able to customize Firefight to your liking, so if you want aggressive grunts or docile hunters, the choice is yours. You can also create custom skulls to change the gameplay, much like the skulls in ODST. Once you’re done tweaking all the options, you can save it and upload it to your fileshare for all your friends to check out.
Firefight mode will also be host to a new class of Spartan, the medic. The medic’s special ability will be a dropshield, which appears to be a less powerful bubbleshield.
A couple new weapons were also revealed. The Concussion Rifle and the Laser-Designated Mortar Strike. The Concussion Rifle fires balls of plasma (possibly like the charged shot from a plasma pistol?) and the Mortar Strike is exactly what it sounds like; death from above.
All in all Halo Reach is shaping up to be the best Halo game Bungie has ever let loose on gamers. Come September 14th, expect to have a lot of fun and lose a lot of sleep.
