At their E3 media briefing today, Konami dropped some pretty exciting news regarding a brand new IP called NeverDead, an action game from Aliens vs. Predator developer Rebellion featuring a yet-to-be-named hero with an odd and unique attribute.
Much like Tobias Fünke of Arrested Development (best comedy series ever known to man) and his “never-nude” affliction, the hero of NeverDead can never die; he is, ostensibly, completely immortal. From the footage shown, this means that as you play, you simply don’t die. The demo highlighted the character wandering through what appears to be an abandoned and ruinied city (with a lady friend in tow) before his head was viciously removed from his neck.
He then pieced himself back together, cracking wise all along. Absolutely ridiculous and everything I’ve ever wanted.
Clearly, there is a sense of humor about the game, as you would expect when a feature of the product is repeatedly reducing your character to meat nuggets throughout the course of the story. If it’s anymore telling, the designer is Shinta Nojiri, the man behind Metal Gear Acid, Metal Gear Acid 2, and Metal Gear: Ghost Babel—Metal Gear: Solid on Game Boy Color for the Americas.
Expect it to hit the Xbox 360 and PS3 at some point after today, i.e. unknown.
