Sony Potentially Getting A Classic HD Line

Boxart for Sony’s upcoming Sly Collection was unveiled with peculiar little attachment to it. If you take a look at the top of the box you’ll notice a “Classic HD” label. If my speculative powers are working then I think it’s safe to assume that Sony is planning on releasing a line of their old franchises in a new HD format, or rather finally giving the idea a name since they’ve already started re-releasing old PS2 game franchises with the God of War Collection. I’m hopeful that this branding means we’ll see more collections come out at a faster rate. With the dwindling existence of backwards compatibility support from the PS3, it’s a great thing to see news like this. Rumors are going around that the new HD line will start coming out on the first quarter of next year. Again, this is all rumor so we only have this box art and a few sources to quote on this as evidence until a Sony executive hits me in the face with a shovel for helping spread such lies.

Update: It seems like more game collections are breaking out onto the web. There were previous rumors of a Team ICO Collection coming out and now Amazon France has it listed on their site. Check it out.

Is it safe to speculate that there will be a Jak and Daxter Classics HD and a Ratchet and Clank Classics HD collection as well? 🙂

    • That’s totally where I was heading when I saw this earlier today. And, god, I hope it happens.
