P*N New This Week: 19th July 2010

Welcome to Platform Nation’s weekly feature where we inform you, the reader, on all the game releases you should be looking out for.

Each week as well as bringing you news about which games are due to hit the shelves in the seven days ahead, the Platform Nation writer will choose their pick of the week.

My pick for this week is:

The graphics are mostly greys and black

Limbo: Having won two Independent Games Festival awards, this 2D sidescroller lands on Xbox Live this week. It is a puzzle-platform game developed by independent Danish PlayDead Studios.

My View: Honestly I had not heard of this game until two weeks ago when a friend told me he was looking forward to picking it up.  The minimalistic art style and gameplay which is similar to the hit game Braid, mean that this has the potential to be a real hit this summer.  It is released during a slow week for game releases so many people will pick this up due to the lack of alternatives but early whisperings suggest that they will be pleasantly surprised by the quality of the game.  I have a massive backlog of games getting bigger by the week so I’ll be doing my best to wait until this features on a deal of the week on Xbox live.

The full rundown. As well as my pick of the week the following games are due for release:

Xbox 360: DarkStar One – Broken Alliance, Limbo

Wii: Trackmania, Arc Rise Fantasia

DS: 7 Wonders II

PC: Need for Speed World
