Platform Nation’s “A Simple Question” – 7/21/10

One of Blizzard’s “Pillars of Opportunity” is releasing July 27th – StarCraft 2 (For those keeping track, Pillars of Opportunity are defined as games Blizzard feels will net $500 million to $1 billion).  The specs were released for playing the game; look them over since you need them to answer this week’s question:

Does your computer meet the requirements to play StarCraft 2? If not, do you plan on upgrading to play?

I can tell you I just bought a rig last year, and am disappointed to see that it does not meet the processor requirements, though I am OK on the rest.  I had planned on picking the game up, but now will have to wait it out, as I don’t want to cheapen the experience by running it on the lowest settings or “settling” for choppy play.  And forget about playing online with a low-end machine.

I’m curious: if the specs are what they are, will this impact the ability for Blizzard to hit the sales figures they expect?  This may be more appropriate for a round table discussion, or perhaps another article, so I won’t delve too deep here, but something to think about…’s response: “Al [sic] that is known about the Starcraft 2 system requirement are that Starcraft 2 will run natively on Windows Vista, as well as Windows XP and that it will be released for Mac and PC simultaneously. Thanks for asking ChaCha today!” – Someone needs to read more press releases…

A Simple Question (ASQ) is a weekly segment for Platform Nation.  Each week, you’ll be posed a question.   Give a response and let the world know what you think.  There is no right or wrong answer here.  I will post my response on Friday. If you have a suggestion for a question, hit me up on twitter @vttym.

  • I know my computer doesn’t, hell, it barely lets me do free online games!

  • My computer doesn’t meet the requirements at all, but I stopped playing PC games due to always needing more requirements I just couldn’t keep up and neither could my wallet and I hate to play a game if I can’t play it to the fullest

  • I’m a sucker for making sure I have a high end PC and I upgrade a couple of components each and every year to make sure that happens. Thankfully my PC will eat Starcraft 2 for breakfast.

  • Sadly I don’t meet the specs, and won’t be able to upgrade the cpu to get there just yet. I hope this isn’t a sign of things to come, as I was really hoping to play diablo 3 on this rig (was one of the reasons I bought a new cpu last year, thinking it would be arriving then)
