Prototype and inFAMOUS, when released back in June and May of 2009 (respectively), were heavily compared against one another—and for good reason. They were pretty similar in plot (average dude gets powers that he doesn’t understand and seeks to find out the “what,” “why,” and “how” of his particular predicament) and close enough to gameplay; Yahtzee of Zero Punctuation fame actually held a contest between the Prototype’s Radical Entertainment and inFAMOUS’ Sucker Punch Productions to see which was the better game and yielded hilarious results.
However, while the future of the Prototype franchise (or rather, the next qualifying step to make the original IP into a full-fledged franchise) is looking rather dim, inFAMOUS 2 is all but released. There’s a trailer, there’s art, and Sucker Punch Productions will be holding a panel at the San Diego Comic-Con.
The title alone of “From Origin to Evolution: The Making of a Modern Day Superhero for the Videogame World” can convey pretty much everything Sucker Punch would probably like to cover in the hour-long panel on Thursday, July 22nd. In the video released alongside the post for the PlayStation Blog by Sucker Punch senior artist Edward Pun, you can get a sneak peek of what they’ll be talking about a bit more specifically.
Namely, Sucker Punch loves comic books. If it wasn’t apparent enough by watching those incredibly stylized cutscenes from the first inFAMOUS that featured animated stills and lots of paint splatter, a few Sucker Punch employees talk about their love for comic books and even how they not only drew inspiration but also the reason behind Cole’s inception.
Also, there are gonna be some ballin’ shirts for all panel attendees. Oh how I wish I could be there.
