Guillermo Del Toro Working On A Video Game Project

The much lauded writer and director of such films as Pan’s Labyrinth and Hellboy has announced that’s he’s partnering up with a big industry name to work on a yet-undisclosed project:

“One of the things we’re announcing in the next few weeks is a big deal with a big company. We’re going to do games that are going to be technically and narratively very interesting. It’s not a development deal. We’re going to do it. We’re doing them. And we’re going to announce it soon enough.”

I have my share of concerns about the announcement (What if it ends up being a lame movie tie-in?  What if Del Toro’s not inconsiderable talents just don’t translate to the gaming medium?  With around 10 titles listed as “in development” on IMDB, what if Del Toro has spread himself too thin?), but hopefully these fears are put to rest soon as we get more info.  Also, the filmmaker has spoken in the past on his love for games, so chances are good that he’ll be taking the project seriously, whatever it turns out to be.
