ArcaniA: Gothic 4, where the hell did you come from? I have heard virtually nothing about this western style RPG, and yet it is closing in on it’s release date. So to rectify this problem, I am going to tell you a bit about this game. I did some research on the net and found out some information on the game. I even found some pretty pictures and a video to share because I know how much you all like flashy, shiny things.
ArcaniA: Gothic 4 is the fourth installment in the Gothic series. However it is the first installment to appear on both the Xbox 360 and the PS3 (the previous 3 games were pc only). It is also being developed by a different company, Spellbound Entertainment. Spellbound is a developing company based in Kehl, Germany and is most notably known for their “Desperados” game series. They have been making games since 1994 and it shows. The screenshots of ArcaniA are off the hook and that is one of the things that is so perplexing about it flying under the games radar.
From what I have seen, ArcaniA is shaping up to be an amazing experience. The visuals are full of color and detail with cool lighting effects. The music is a beautiful soundtrack of orchestral music, very epic like the Lord of the Rings movie soundtrack. The website plays three songs on an endless loop for your listening pleasure. The gameplay footage that I’ve seen looks slicker than a pool of orc blood on a marble floor. Just check it out for yourself at the bottom of the article. I have to say that I am very impressed by what I have seen so far from Spellbound.
The story in ArcaniA follows along with the conclusion of Gothic 3. 10 years have passed by and the world has changed. The Southern Isles are in turmoil which allows for many adventures for the Nameless Hero to partake in. The decisions you make will not only affect the Southern Isles, but the entire world. Throw in a mix of familiar faces and new acquaintances that will either aid you in your journey or thwart your attempts, and you have yourself the makings of an epic journey.
The following statement comes from the official website, “ArcaniA: Gothic 4 is set in a rich world that invites the player to explore all of its innumerable attractions and detailed landscapes. Different climate zones, abundant flora and fauna, subterranean vaults, cities and castles with breathtaking architecture await the adventurer. Clouds darken the skies, wind and heavy rain influence the game world; and with its striking graphics, day/night cycles and stunning display of light and shadow, the player will be fascinated endlessly. Masterful scores and sound effects create a truly immersive playing environment, and a multitude of challenging quests filled with tactical combat, along with a captivating plot, guarantee endless hours of highly entertaining gameplay. The Southern Islands await!” DUDE! Sign Me Up!
JoWood and Dreamcatcher will be publishing this gem when the leaves turn to shades of yellow, orange, and red. Amazon has the release date scheduled as October 19, 2010, but the official website claims it is October 12, 2010. Either way, October will be here sooner than you think and it will be time to set out on another adventure. I am definitely planning on it and I hope you are too!
Last but not least, check out these artwork images from the ArcaniA website:
