Index Holdings has dissolved Atlus Games in order to streamline the company and turn its focus to “profitable core areas,” according to Gamasutra. Atlus will most likely complete the projects that are currently in progress, but the ultimate fate of the company is unknown for now.
Atlus is primarily known for the Shin Megami Tensei series, but the Trauma Center and Etrian Odyssey series have also been relatively popular. They are currently in the middle of making Catherine, a RPG-horror game that is only for adults. The game will most likely be finished in spite of the dissolution of the company.
What do you think? Is the loss of a more creative and out-there company a blow to the gaming industry, or will Atlus simply fade away unnoticed? Let us know!
