Activision has announced that the legendary leader of the Wu-Tang Clan, RZA, will be a playable character in the upcoming DJ Hero 2.
“I’m very excited to be involved with DJ Hero 2,” says RZA, real name Robert Diggs. He adds, with a degree of repetition and inelegant scansion reminiscent of a typical Bobby Digital rap, “As both a DJ and gamer from an early age, the game combines two of my passions. I loved working with the team and am excited for the fans to hear the two brand-new mixes I put together just for this game.”
It may seem like an eternity since he put out a decent record but nobody could claim that the New York producer/emcee hasn’t kept himself constantly busy since 1993, when the Wu redefined hip hop’s landscape with their groundbreaking debut album. He’s dipped his toes into acting and screenwriting on top of his multitude of musical experiments, and is no stranger to gaming either. As well as working on the musical score for Afro Samurai, RZA previously had a hand in Activision’s underwhelming PlayStation One beat-em-up, Wu-Tang: Shaolin Style.
It must be said that the charismatic clansman seems a strange choice for a DJ-sim, seeing as he tends to be more of a producer than a disc-spinner. On the bright side though, we can hang onto the hope that however this turns out it can’t be as much of a let-down as Wu-Tang Forever.
