Greetings from PAX 2010! I just stopped by the Big Sandwich Games booth and Tyler Sigman (the Design Director) was kind enough to give me the lowdown on HOARD — a new game that will be dropping at the end of September on the PSN. An arcade-style game, HOARD places you in the scales of a dragon intent on holding dominion over a kingdom and it’s loot.
Fly around, burn down castles, subjugate towns, and kidnap princesses. Of course, the NPCs won’t stand for this, and they soon begin sending knights, archers, and wizards against you. Fight back by upgrading your dragon with more firepower, armor, and the ability to carry more gold back to your…uh…HOARD. Show the NPCs that they have no hope of overcoming your furious power! But…you’ll also have the other players to contend with…
HOARD supports up to 4 players, both online and offline, in several competitive and cooperative modes. I have to say that I was really impressed with this game. It’s simple enough for casual players, and it has enough depth in the strategy to keep the more hardcore gamers interested. Each round clocks in at about 10 minutes, so it’s easy to jump in and play a quick round if your gaming time is limited. There are a multitude of maps to master, and trophies to collect which equals serious replay value. I’ll definitely be keeping an eye on HOARD, and I’ll be sure to pass on any information I get to the Nation.
HOARD is releasing late September on the PSN ($14.99), and it will be coming to PSP, PC, and Mac later this year.
