Keita Takahashi, director of the well-loved and offbeat Katamari Damacy and Noby Noby Boy, has quit his postition at Namco Bandai. While this may come as no surprise to many, as Takahashi has expressed his desire to leave the video game industry several times over the past few years, the news is still disappointing. His most recent comments preceding the announcement cite a disillusionment with the direction said industry seems to be heading in:
“At E3 I saw people putting on speeches but I thought the future seemed a bit dark….I think motion control’s a bit old now, I don’t think those games are the future. It all seemed a bit dull.”
It still isn’t clear whether he has any interest in pursuing video game development with another company, but given his statements I wouldn’t hold out much hope, at least for the near future.
